During this period when dinosaurs roamed the earth, cold volcanoes brought up to the surface a unique terroir buried ten kilometres underground to form the Dentelles de Montmirail massif.
The first traces of viticulture appear in this ancient terroir. Muscat à Petits Grains was the first grape variety to be grown thanks to its rich aromatic bouquet. This was the beginning of winegrowing in the Dentelles de Montmirail.
Over time, agriculture, and especially olive growing expanded tremendously in the Dentelles de Montmirail region. Unfortunately, the entire area was struck by frost in 1955 and the olive industry was practically destroyed. Most farmers decided to turn towards winegrowing since the vine is better able to withstand cold temperatures.
A handful of visionaries joined forces to create the first cooperative cellars in the Dentelles: the Vignerons de Caractère and the Vignerons de Beaumes de Venise.
This marks the birth of Terroir Daronton.
Thanks to the quality and originality of Gigondas, Vacqueyras, and Beaumes de Venise, these wines achieved the status of Rhone Valley "crus". The wines of Terroir Daronton had received the official recognition they deserved.
This year marks the birth of Rhonéa, an alliance of artisan winegrowers in the Dentelles de Montmirail committed to protecting and developing Terroir Daronton – one like no other in the world
